Major Changes

Major changes to the EMDG program that have been recommended for the 2006/2007 grant year and beyond include;

an increase in the daily travel allowance from $200 to $300
amendment of the scheme’s rules to provide flexibility in handling emerging export sector applications that do not technically meet the current principal status requirements
the removal of the export earnings performance test requirement. This will remove some anomalies, and make the scheme simpler to understand and more accessible for small business
the capping of overseas representatives at $200,000 and marketing consulants at $50,000
the scheme has now been extended to 2011

2006 EMDG expense payments

The 30th of June 2006 is the final day for expenses to be paid (acquitted in EMDG terminology) and therefore to be allowed as an expense in the 2006 EMDG application. If you are paying an expense by cheque, that means that the cheque has to be appear on a bank statement dated on or before the 30th of June 2006.

If you are intending to claim for overseas representatives and/or marketing consultants, we recommend that you contact us prior to 30 June 2006 or as soon as possible thereafter to ensure to find out what will be needed to substantiate the claim and to ensure that the documentation is in order.

Changes which will be introduced from 1 July 2006 could have an impact to the amounts that can be claimed under this section. If you need any information on how this could impact on your application, please contact us.
